 Circle Drop Print

The participating young athletes are forming a circle of about 20 feet in diameter with everyone outwards. The coach who stands in the center drops a ball onto the ground and calls out the name of one of the students who must quickly turn around and run towards the ball, trying to catch it after as few bounces is possible.

This is another example of a lead-up drill for baseball, basketball, football, tennis, and even soccer that is easily adapted to virtually all ages and skill-levels. It works equally well for five-year-olds and high school basketball stars. Just adjust the challenge by releasing the ball from different heights or expanding the size of the circle.

For younger children, we suggest avoiding score-keeping so there are no winners and losers. However, for older kids, competition and even a some cheering can make this drill a lot of fun.
